A Favorite Photo.

The Blog Everyday In May challenge for the 17th was: A favorite photo of yourself and why.

Well, I'm a little late in posting, but {BUT!} only by a few minutes. So, it's no big deal, right? Right.

One of my favorite photos {since I can never narrow anything down to "just one"} is this one:

This particular photo is a personal favorite because... well, just look at it!

I was either on my way to classes or coming back early, and my baby {yes, she was a baby then!} was giving me some love. She nearly tumbled down the steps, she was just coming right for me.

I love her.
I love her hugs.
I love this picture.
I miss her being a baby.
She is growing up so fast. Too fast.
Before I know it, she'll be a teenager.
Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves here...

Something I Miss.

{Day 12 of the Blog Everyday In May Challenge:}
The something I am currently missing is a place. A place known as:

My Dad, Sister, Nick, and I all went there as my graduation-from-YTI present.
 {Fun fact:  we were actually there this time two years ago!}

 We spent countless hours snorkeling and immersing ourselves in the sea life as much as possible.
We spent one night being totally silly/crazy thanks to a very talented {as in got us drunk. fast.} bartender named Segi.
We soaked up the Caribbean Sun and had tan lines {oh, how I miss being tan}.
We ate delicious food.
We swam with and fed stingrays {from our hands!} at Stingray City.
We enjoyed every. single. minute.

To say we are long overdue for another vacation is a total understatement.

Thankfully, in no less than 52 days, we will all {including Peyton and my mom} be headed to Turks & Caicos for 10 whole days!!

I can not wait to take Peyton on the plane, to show her the clear blue waters, and to hopefully get her to do some snorkeling and see all of the beautiful fish under the sea!
It'll be even better than our Grand Cayman trip, I'm sure {and that's saying something!}.

Me, in 10 words.

Today's daily Blog Everyday In May challenge is to: "sell myself in ten words or less".

My question: Who am I "selling" myself to? What does that even mean?

If I'm just supposed to be describing myself in those few words, then I think I can do that.

So, here we go...

Me. Just as a visual.

I am:

1 - {a} Momma.

2 - {a} girlfriend.

3 - {a} daughter.

4 - {a} sister.

{I'm very family-oriented, if that wasn't obvious enough.}

5 & 6 - {a} hopeless romantic.

7 - shy.

8 - {a} procrastinator.

9 - {a wannabe} baker/chef.

10 - happy.

I asked Nick to write down his description of me, in 10 words or less.
It took him all of two seconds to scribble this response:

{Sorry for the crappy Iphone-quality picture.}

When I asked him why it didn't take him so long, all he said was:
"Well, that's because it's not something I had to think too hard about."

I love him.

So, there you have it!

Today, My Baby Had Surgery.

This is an account of how our day has gone so far. Today, my baby had to have dental "rehabilitation" done on her poor baby teefers {the girl has awful teeth}. In totally, she was under anesthesia for 3 hours but is now CAVITY FREE! She's so thrilled. I'm just happy that everything went smoothly today.

Here we go:

6:43am - We arrive at the surgical center a few minutes late {usual for us}.

{loved the morning mist on the fields as we were driving to the surgical center so much that I thought it was worth documenting.}

6:45am - complete the check-in process.

6:50am - we head back to the pre-op area. There we talk with the nurse who then takes her vital signs.

7:00am - talk with the anesthetist. He brings back a small pinkish/purple pre-med "cocktail" for Peyton {intended to make the separation much easier when they go to take her back to the OR.}
Hey Doc, can I get some of that!? I'm one super anxious momma here! I kid. I kid.
I thought she would put up a fight about drinking the stuff, but she chugged it like a champ without a problem.

10 min. later - Peyton is starting to get a little delirious and loop thanks to the pre-meds. The nurses arrive to wheel her back
She's fine. Seems really sleepy and snuggles up with her dolphin and tiger beneath her pink blankie. She goes with them without a hitch...
Meanwhile, I'm crying like a baby.
We make our way out to the waiting room to do just that, wait.
{and to drink some really wonderful nasty coffee.}

8:15am - Nurse Kim calls out to let me know that everything is going swell. Peyton went to sleep without a problem and didn't seem scared or cry one single tear.
{That "cocktail" really did the trick!}
They did 7 x-rays to double-check what all they needed to do and Kim says she'll call back in about half an hour to let me know what the plan is.

8:20am - Nick leaves to go get us breakfast/libations. There are still knots in my stomach and I feel like I could burst into tears at any moment. Just the thought of my baby with her eyes taped shut and a breathing tube down her little throat makes me shudder...

8:40am - Nick arrives back with a McGriddle in hand.
{I'm in total fatty heaven at this point.}

8:45am - I'm feeling the full effects of said McGriddle... and it is NOT good. Those things are WAYYY too greasy and heavy in your stomach. Yuck. At least my orange juice is good...

8:50am - Nurse Kim calls back. They won't need to be doing any extractions today {thank goodness!!}. Two of her back molars were cleared to have sealant put on them. The Catch?: Insurance isn't gonna cover it. But, I'd rather be safe than sorry, so I say "Go ahead and seal 'em up!". She says she'll call back again soon.

9:32am - Ring ring, ring ring. It's Nurse Kim again. She states that so far, the dentist has put two silver crowns on Peyton's teeth. She is expecting to receive the "30 min. warning" soon, meaning this whole process should be wrapping up shortly.
{Which is great news, because these waiting room chairs are in no way, shape, or form comfortable enough to sit/lay on for any longer than 5 min. 3hrs.}

Exhibit A: our 49th attempt at getting comfy in those awful chairs. We have no shame.

10:00am - Nurse Kim makes her last call out to us. The dentist has given her the 30 min. warning, so things are starting to wind down. When they're done in the OR, they'll take her out to do 2 more x-rays and then take her to recovery {where they'll remove her breathing tube and wake her up}. The dentist will then come out to talk with us {about another 45-60 min. from now} and then we'll FINALLY get to go back and be with our baby.

10:40am - The dentist comes out. She tells us everything went great. Peyton needed two pulpotomys {a children's version of a root canal} and she now has three silver crowns, two "sealed" teeth, and multiple fillings.
{I told you this girl has bad teeth!}

10:45am - The nurse takes us back to recovery, where our sweet and sleepy baby was waiting. She did wonderfully, but was so groggy and kept letting out these heartbreaking moans. She drank some a lot of water and just wanted to snuggle. The anesthetist and nurse talked to us and told us what to expect for today.

11:15am - we're homeward bound!
{hallelujah!}

11:45am - we've made it home safe and sound. We will be spending the afternoon/evening snuggling on the couch and watching Disney movies.

I think this post could also count as today's Blog Everyday In May challenge of "A moment of your day"... it's just more than one moment.Which is okay, because I've been doing more than one of whatever-the-daily-prompt-is anyways, ha.
The end.

my advice to you

So, I've skipped a few days here and there in this Blog Everyday In May challenge and I hadn't really been planning on writing a post for today either; but as I uploaded some older pictures to my computer this evening, I came up with two bits of advice for y'all.

First, I shall be stealing a line from Rascal Flatts and saying:

aren't these two just the cutest?! melts my heart watching them together.

 These two are my world and I strive everyday to make sure that I let them know that.
Unconditional love -- make sure those close to you receive it.
Don't take a single day with them for granted.

 Secondly:

Life is too short to have anything but the absolute best time possible.
{And if that includes giggling like fools and making goober faces, well then you must be one of these two!}

But seriously, live your life to the fullest. Be happy with what you do and where you go.
{Goodness, that was definately more than one tidbit of advice. Oh well, you get my point, right?}

 I'll be ending this post with a picture of this adorable munchkin, post-bath:

She has serious at-least-3-hour-long dental surgery {under anesthesia!} scheduled bright and early tomorrow.

All she knows is that she will become a part of the "No Cavity Club" and is excited for the chance to win a giant stuffed animal from the dentists for becoming a new member of said club.

I, on the other hand, am nervous as all get out.

Please, keep us in your thoughts.

My Favorite Quote{s}

Pride & Prejudice {the one with Keira Knightley} is one of my favorite movies, so I obviously have many favorite lines from that script. My most favorite of which being:

via

Why I love it: Like I said, I just love that whole entire movie and this whole scene, their love, it all just makes me melt and feel all happy inside. Must be my hopeless-romantic-ness shining through. And Mr. Darcy? *swoon*

----------------------------------------------------

"Meaning is not something you stumble across, like the answer to a riddle or the prize in a treasure hunt. Meaning is something you build into your life. You build it out of your own past, out of your affections and loyalties, out of the experience of humankind as it is passed on to you, out of your own talent and understanding, out of the things you believe in, out of the things and people you love, out of the values for which you are willing to sacrifice something. The ingredients are there. You are the only one who can put them together into that pattern that will be your life. Let it be a life that has dignity and meaning for you. If it does, then the particular balance of success or failure is of less account."

-John Gardner.

Why I love it: I found the above quote many years ago and I can not believe how well it applies to my life and my situation right now. Nick and I have been having numerous discussions about what our 3, 5, and 10 year "plans" look like and have been asking ourselves questions like : "Where do we go from here?", "What means the most to us in our lives?", and "What do we want to accomplish?". As long as we are successful in that we live happy lives and can look back one day with pride and joy, I would say that we've succeeded wonderfully. All we can hope for is to be happy.

----------------------------------------------------

Oh, and just about any line from The Notebook:

"The best love is the kind that awakens the soul and makes us reach for more, that plants a fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds. And that's what you've given me. That's what I hope to give you forever." - The Notebook

This one's got special meaning to me:
via

 "So it's not gonna be easy. It's gonna be really hard. We're gonna have to work at this every day, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, for ever, you and me, every day."
-The Notebook

Why I love them: Have I mentioned that I am a hopeless romantic? Yeah. Plus, that whole bit about "If you're a bird, I'm a bird."? Well, Nick's last name is a type of bird... If we get married, technically that'll make me a "bird", too. Get it? Get it? :) We are lovey-dovey-mushy-gushy like that.

That's all for today, folks!
{Sorry I couldn't narrow it down to just one!}

Things That Make Me Uncomfortable:

It's day numero tres of this Blog Everyday In May challenge and today we are to talk about what makes us uncomfortable. Let's begin, shall we?:
Circa May 2011: On my Graduation Trip to Grand Cayman

1- Just looking at the above picture makes me uncomfortable. That was taken AFTER our trip to the bar at Rum Point where a bartender name Segi showered us with wayyy too many delicious {and very potent} alcoholic beverages. Why I thought that continuing on with the alcohol was a good idea? Who knows. But I can tell you that I certainly did NOT make it to the scuba diving adventure my Dad had scheduled for us the next morning. Who had the worst hangover of her life while on vacation? This girl. Luckily, that was the last time that happened. {PS-I will have to do a Cayman trip recap on here at some point! and PPS- I am most certainly not an alcoholic, I blame Segi for this behavior!}

2- I work for an OB/GYN and sometimes things can get a little a lot awkward up in that joint. Especially, when taking patients back who are there for an infection/STD check who bring their boyfriends/significant others for the visit... that is an uncomfortable 5 minutes! I try to get in and out of the room as quickly as possible then.

3- Speaking in public. Or just being at a social gathering where I really don't know anyone. I have a severe "nobody-likes-me-and-everything-I-say-sounds-awkward" complex and have a really hard time just starting up a conversation with someone I don't know... or even family members for that matter. I am much like my Dad in the anti-social sense. {Which makes no sense given I talk to numerous patients and customers everyday at both of my jobs.}

4- Thinking about where my delicious chicken mcnuggets came from and what process they went through before making it onto my plate/food-box/napkin/tray... I just have to cut that thought process off real quick and scarf down the rest of them before I think too hard about it. They're just so dang delicious!

5- Trying to "sell" a Pier 1 Rewards Credit Card to customers... I am no salesperson. I just enjoy design and helping people figure out how to decorate their home. I don't like being pushy or trying to force someone to sign up for a credit card {that they probably don't even need.}

6- Shopping with anyone except my mom. I am much less inclined to actually try stuff on if Nick is shopping with me and I just get uncomfortable browsing the racks of clothes while he just follows me around, watching my every move.

7- Walking outside at night. I constantly feel like something bad is going to happen or that there is someone/something watching me. One time, Nick and I were walking back from my Grammy's house to my parents house at night and we both had this creepy feeling that someone was watching us... low and behold, we turned around to find the neighborhood's "adopted" deer walking about 3 feet behind us! We didn't even hear her. So, that just proved to me that whenever I have that feeling... something is watching me. And THAT is uncomfortable.

Thumbelina, the neighborhood deer :)

8- Speaking of irrational fears and such, I absolutely get uncomfortable coming back up the stairs from any basement. I constantly feel like a monster is gonna chase me up the steps. So I ruuuuuuun for my life, I don't grab no shoes or nothin'! But seriously, it scares the poop outta me. Especially if I'm following someone else up the steps and they turn off the light; I darn near knock 'em down trying to get to the top of that staircase. And then, I go get myself a cold pop.

This list could probably go on and on, but for your sake, I'll stop there.
You're welcome.

PS- I am rather enjoying this link-up! :)

all about yours truly

I've been drawing blanks on what to write here on this space lately. Sometimes, it's just really hard to get something started. I think that's a general feeling for me though. I am a hardcore procrastinator.

Like, hardcore.

In high school, some most times I wouldn't start a 3-5 page paper until the night before. Term papers?Psssh, who works on those ahead of time now a days? Ain't nobody got time for that!

just for a visual: this is me, almost out of high school, sayin' "deuces term papers!"... super cool, I know.

Regardless, at least I'm putting pen to paper my fingertips to the keyboard and sharing something here today.

I've decided to hop onto the latest blogger-bandwagon aka link-up {since my fav. link-up went bye-bye temporarily} in an attempt to keep my creative juices flowing and to help with my procrastination issue... even if this post is a day late, oops!
Told ya! My procrastination-ness knows no bounds.

The link-up challenge is to Blog Everyday In May and the first day was to be "the story of your life, in 250 words or less"... so here goes:
pictures first, of course.
 The Story of My Life:

I was born prematurely and weighed a whopping 3lbs 14oz. My 9lb sister was born a few years later. We grew up in the house that my parents built themselves.We were so “spoiled” and very loved. Still are.  I was always a shy child, and still am as an adult. I am lucky to have so many fond memories of my childhood and am thankful everyday for the life my parents provided for me/us. I graduated and went to college for a whole semester… and then had my beautiful baby girl. She is my life. My whole world revolves around her. I don’t think that I will ever been one of those young parents who “regrets not getting to ‘live out’ her crazy/wild twenties”.  I never really knew what I wanted to go to school for, but my dad suggested something in the medical field and thus, I am a Medical Assistant {and part-time Pier 1 Import’s Sales Associate} and I love it. Nick and I met when Peyton was around 9 months old and we have been inseperable ever since. He is so good to me and to my babygirl. We moved into our own apartment about a year ago and are looking forward to the day we get to buy our first home {and I can’t wait to get married and have more babies!}. I dream of being a SAHM and taking care of our family. I am content and oh so very happy to be me.

 The end.

Hopefully I'll be able to somewhat keep up with these daily posts, at least the ones that peak my interest. {Today's was to educate you on something I know alot about or I am good at... I couldn't come up with anything, so we'll just be skipping that. Maybe come back to it another day if I do come up with something.}
